Corona virus and COVID-19

Statement 20th Mar 2020:

In line with today’s Government directive, the Anglers Rest has now closed to on-site pub and cafe customers.

We remain open for Post Office transactions during the following hours: 9.00am to 7.00pm.

Please follow the instructions of our staff regarding entering and exiting the building to reduce contact with others.

We are also serving takeaway food and drinks during the following hours: noon to 7.00pm

Please call us if anyone needs advice or assistance on 01433 659317.

We are sure that everyone is concerned about the Corona Virus (COVID-19) and the impact it is having (and will continue to have for some time) on our lives. We want to let you know what we are doing to protect you and our staff against its impact.

The best medical advice is to ensure frequent washing of hands with warm water and soap.  Our staff have been instructed to wash between serving each customer.  We hope that you will understand that this may slow service a little, but it’s a vital precaution to limit the spread.  We also encourage you to do wash your hands frequently, and we are checking regularly to ensure that there are soap and single use paper towels in the toilets.  If you feel stocks are running low please let a member of staff know. We are stepping up the cleaning routine and have increased the frequency and intensity of the cleaning we undertake throughout the day, paying particular attention to the areas that customers and team members come into contact with most regularly including the restrooms, door handles and bar and dining areas.  Tables will be cleaned thoroughly between customers, and cutlery and condiments will be brought to the table for use at the time rather than set out in advance.

Staff are being briefed on any changes to routines at the start of each day with clear instruction about how to maintain the highest hygiene standards in our community pub, including emphasising frequent and proper hand washing routines for both our team and customers. We are also being very cautious in terms of any team member showing signs of illness, requiring them to follow the isolation and health guidance given by the government.

Current events up to Easter will go ahead unless government advice means that we have to change this.  We will review several times each week whether other, future planned events should go ahead.

We are continuing to closely monitor the situation with frequent meetings of the Directors and management team, and you will be able to see any further updates on our website or in the building.

It’s important to stress that, in line with current government advice, our Pub, Café and Post Office are open for business and we hope to be able to welcome you very soon.

Finally, as a community hub, we want to be of service to those locally who are struggling, whether through self-isolation, illness or other reasons.  We have slips available in the pub, post office and café which you can complete to ask for help.  We will try to ensure that this assistance is provided – doing things like shopping or even just having a conversation on the phone to help prevent loneliness.  Many communities are starting similar schemes including in Hathersage and Baslow.  If you’d like to volunteer to help us with this in Bamford, Thornhill and Shatton, please let Sarah or any of the Directors know

Best wishes,

The Anglers Rest Directors and Management
